SmartMat, an English "open access" academic journal, was officially launched by Tianjin University and Wiley, with the focus on the prospective research achievements in the field of intelligent materials (journal link:https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/2688819x).
Tianjin University, the first modern university in China decided to set up an academic OA journal in English relying on its first-class discipline-Materials Science and Engineering in 2019 as it is taking great efforts to become a world-class university. Thus,SmartMat came into being, aiming to become a domestically leading and internationally prestigious academic journal that enhances science communication and innovation.
The editorial office ofSmartMat is located in the Academic Journal Publishing Center of Tianjin University. Editors-in-Chief are Professor Wenping Hu, who is a Distinguished Professor of “Cheung Kong Scholars”,Chief Scientist of National Major Research and Development Program, and Vice President of Tianjin University, and Professor Hua Zhang, who is the Herman Hu Chair Professor in City University of Hong Kong and one of the "Highly Cited Researchers” identified by Thomson Reuters since 2014. They are fully responsible for the academic quality of SmartMat. Associate editors are Professor Khalid Salaita from Emory University in the United States and Professor Henning Sirringhaus from Cambridge University in the United Kingdom.
SmartMat is a quarterly publication that publishes original peer-reviewed, high-quality research papers, letters and reviews, aiming to build up a flagship journal on the topics of smart materials with broad academic impact. This journal focuses on intelligent materials, such as organic and polymeric functional materials, shape memory alloys and polymers, 2D materials, electroactive polymers, biomimetic robotics, smart textiles, electrorheological and magnetorheological fluids, AI and neuromorphic devices and systems, metamorphic biomaterials, self-healing materials, piezoelectric materials and artificial muscles.
