Professor Hu Wenping, vice-president of Tianjin University urged the freshmen at the School of Science to explore into the world of chemistry during their first collegiate class on August 27.

Why do we learn chemistry? Hu Wenping started his report which was themed ‘Chemistry sparks wonderful life’ with the application of chemistry and discussed the basic uses of chemistry with the students. He then introduced the university history, and especially its major achievements in chemistry.

“Chemistry is a fundamental discipline that serves as the basis of chemical engineering, material science, electronic information engineering, and energy related disciplines,” Prof. Hu noted. He hoped that students could lay a solid academic foundation, be innovative and explore more possibilities in chemistry..

In his report, Prof. Hu also introduces the special features of the undergraduate program at the Department of Chemistry were emphatically introduced to students. The school leverages the high-quality teaching resources like state-level teaching and research platforms, national major projects and world-class institutions to systematically set up the teaching plans.

In terms of college study, Prof. Hu gave students advice on what to learn and learning methods. “It is important to develop the sense and ability of self-control, self-education,self-service,and self-discipline. Only in this way, can you become qualified professional talents who are able to solve practical problems independently,” Prof. Hu encouraged the freshmen to embrace challenges, be creative and build their own dreams in future.
