A delegation of undergraduates from the School of Science of Tianjin University visited the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University for a study tour from July 24 to July 29, 2023. The delegation was led by Liu Changlong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Science, and Cheng Shanshan, Assistant Dean of the School of Science. The delegation members included students majoring in Applied Chemistry and Applied Physics.
The delegation paid a visit to the National University of Singapore (NUS) on July 25. NUS representatives welcomed the Tianjin University team, introduced the NUS and TJU-NUS master's programs. Assistant professor Chi Chunyan introduced the PhD program and scholarship program. Shi Qi, an alumnus from Tianjin University's School of Science, shared her experience studying at NUS and living in Singapore, and Associate Professor Zhu Ruyi highlighted his research direction, research progress, and scientific research ideas. The delegation also visited the laboratories and the Molecular, as well as the Molecular and Materials Analysis Center (CMMAC), to experience the research atmosphere of NUS.
On July 26, the delegation paid a visit to Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Professor Liu Shuzhou of the School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) presented a welcoming address, and introduced MSE. Later, the delegation, accompanied by NTU representatives, visited MSE's laboratory to see the research facilities and ongoing studies. During their visit, Professor Yan Qingyu, Professor Yu Jing, and Professor Wu Dongshuang shared their research directions and progress.
On July 27, Professors Gao Weibo and Fan Hongjin presented the scope and status of their respective research projects. The delegation took an interactive tour of the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences' (SPMS) lab, during which the delegation members interacted amicably and positively with the NTU students. Professors Xing Bengang and Zhao Yanli presented their study goals and development. The delegation also visited SIMTech to hear about the most cutting-edge technology and ongoing ground-breaking initiatives.
The delegation actively engaged with professors and students from NUS and NTU during the study tour. The institution offered an excellent chance for interchange and learning, and expanded students’ perspectives.
On July 28, the delegation visited the ArtScience Museum Marina Bay Sands to see the digital art show to improve the students' understanding of science and art and to experience the strong relationship between science and art.
The School of Science has long had a foreign exchange program that involves students visiting universities abroad. It not only helps students understand their majors better, but it also expands their horizons, develops their global perspective, and inspires them to be at the forefront of scientific research and look into a wider field of scientific study.
