On April 28th, 2023, the kick-off meeting and implementation plan validation meeting of the "Super-sensitive bio-gas-hydraulic sensing monitoring project based on flexible materials", which was undertaken by Tianjin University as the project leader of the National Key R&D Program "Bio-information Fusion", was held in Tianjin. This meeting was attended by Prof. Ming Dong, Vice President of Tianjin University, who is accountable for this project, Prof. Bu Xianhe from Nankai University, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Liu Yi, Vice President of Tiangong University, Prof. Zou Dechun of Peking University, Prof. Chen Junwu of South China University of Technology, Prof. Shi Feng of Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Prof. Li Changzhi of Zhejiang University and Prof. Li Chenzhong of Chinese University of Hong Kong, all of these professors serve as the consultant of this project; Prof. Hu Wenping, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Executive Vice President of Tianjin University, Fu Yindan, Executive Vice Dean of the Office of Science and Technology of  Tianjin University, Prof. Geng Yanhou, Dean of the School of Science of Tianjin University, Prof. Yang Hui ,chief director of the project from the School of Science of Tianjin University and about 50 representatives from the project-leading departments and R&D management groups of the participating departments, discipline leaders, academic cadres and student representatives. The meeting was chaired by Zhang He, Vice Dean of the Office of Science and Technology of Tianjin University.

At the meeting, Prof. Wenping Hu, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Executive Vice President of Tianjin University, who delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the project leader, emphasized that the key project is not only a major breakthrough made by Tianjin University in flexible electronics, but also a landmark of interdisciplinary integration of Tianjin University. He stressed that as kick-off meeting is the beginning of a new mission and a new journey, it is essential to justify the implementation plan, carry out complete implementation planning and detailed risk assessment; while implementing the project, the participators are supposed to be bold and innovative, pioneering and ambitious to carry put research programs according to local conditions with a focus on the overall goal of the research. At the same time, Tianjin University, as the project contractor, will effectively implement the responsibilities as the legal entity, fully support the project to carry out research, provide refined and professional management services for the project, do a good job of coordination and support, build a quality control system for the implementation of major projects, ensure the project can be completed on schedule and meet the quality and quantity standards required, and generate significant original results with a priority on core objectives. Then, he issued letters of appointment for the experts.

Speaking on behalf of the School of Science, Professor Geng Yanhou, Dean of the School of Science of Tianjin University, emphasized that this key R&D project focuses on the flexible manufacturing needs of real-time, efficient and stable collection of special environment-human information, and efficiently integrates wearable super-sensitive bio-liquid-electrical sensing and monitoring prototypes. Therefore, this program can promote national life sciences, health industry, strategic emerging industries and economic structure optimization and upgrading, fully demonstrating Tianjin University's mission to focus on national strategies. He said that School of Science will actively support the research work of the project to ensure the smooth development and successful completion of the tasks, and to form a highland of academic ideas and innovative technologies in this field.

Professor Yang Hui, the Chief Scientist of the project, introducing the research objectives and contents of the project, the overall integration requirements and key milestones of the project, further clarified the organisational management mechanism and the communication and coordination mechanism of the project team on the basis of the project implementation plan. Given four project topics, the project leaders made detailed reports on the overall situation and implementation plan of the programs respectively. The experts at the meeting put forward valuable suggestions on the key nodes control, technical route, schedule and other specific work during the implementation of the project and topics.

"The project was established in November 2022, with a total funding of RMB 17,975,500, including RMB 17,975,500 from the central government, with four topics and six participating units. The project focuses on three key technological issues: the macroscopic preparation of high-performance stretchable functional material systems and the principle of force-electric performance regulation; the constitutive relationship between the structure and sensing performance of organic field effect transistor (OFET) devices and their gas-liquid-electric sensing mechanism; the large-area flexible micro-nano fabrication process based on OFET arrays and the efficient integration technology of multimodal super-sensitive bio-gas-liquid-electric sensors. This project aims to propose the macro-preparation method and the principle of force-electricity regulation of high-performance skin-like functional materials, reveal the new mechanism of gas-liquid electric sensing, develop the large-area preparation process of OFET arrays, realize the miniaturization and continuous energy supply of chips, which can be worn noninducively, and integrate the sensing prototype to efficiently and stably monitor the external dangerous gases and the functional state of human body in the special operating environment. The "Bio-Information Fusion" project prioritizes support to the relevant important scientific frontiers or our scientists to achieve original breakthroughs. With clear prospects in applications, this project is expected to produce a transformative impact on the technological prototype and generate visionary and original basic research and cutting-edge cross-sectional research which are beneficial to socio-economic development.
